BG Coolant Flush

Hi Scotty, love your channel and videos. I was lucky enough to buy a 2014 Lexus GS450h with 38K miles in March of 2020. This was right after the pandemic hit and nobody was buying cars. I made an inquiry about the car one time in February and the salesman was so desperate to sell cars, he dropped the price by $2500 and that sealed the deal for me since the car was already under blue book value. Oh, and they covered the shipping to my home in Texas. A year later and the dealership calls me asking if I’d be interested in selling it back at a profit!  Unreal. It’s loaded except for the night vision and was always maintained by the Lexus dealer in Albuquerque. I live in San Antonio, Texas and take my cars to an independent shop and today they are recommending a BG coolant flush and treatment. In all my years of car ownership I’ve never had a coolant treatment before. They say it is phosphate free and there are no issues with compatibility. I wanted to get your opinion, is this something you’d recommend? And as far as the replacement coolant, they use Toyota compatible Durmax but said they could get Toyota coolant as well. Would love to hear your thoughts and what you’d recommend we do. It’s a wonderful car. Would love to hear your thoughts on the CVT it has. Truly a strange sensation driving compared to auto transmission of our previous car but I’m used to it now. Not sure what maintenance it requires and when.

thanks,

James

You don't need any cleaners, conditioners, flushes or treatments.

Just change the fluid with whatever the manual recommends.

Follow the owner's manual for the service interval. It does not seem like that you need a flush, did they tell you why you need the coolant flush?

Forgot to mention, my wife took the car by the shop because the coolant was below the minimum level and the shop said they wouldn’t just top it up but wanted to check for leaks and then recommended that BG coolant service using cooling system cleaner (PN 540) and universal Super Cool (PN 546). The car now has 51K miles, mostly city driving. No issues with drivability.
