Hey guys. I could use some help. I Have a 1998 4runner 4WD automatic with 250,000. Car still runs like a top however, when I’m on the freeway going around 75 mph or faster the Check Engine Light starts to blink! Computer has 3 codes. States Cylinder 2, cylinder 5 and a random misfire is occuring. The thing is I cannot feel any misfires when it occurs. Drives completely smooth on highway when it starts blinking. No shaking, nothing. I replaced all 3 coils and it has actually made the light blink a bit less frequently but it still blinks on freeway from time to time going 75 or more. FYI the car doesnt lose ANY coolant. So head gasket is fine. I think its injector(s)? ANYTHING HELPS THANK YOU!

When the check engine light blinks like that, it means the problem is severe enough to cause engine damage (misfires cause it to flash too). Have you tried replacing the spark plugs yet? If you replaced the spark plugs and have new coils, then you should check the injectors next. And if it's not the injectors, then those cylinders are losing compression. It's strange that you don't feel the misfires...unless each one is happening at a different time from the other.

I agree with the above comment. One more thing to add is to avoid situations where your check engine light is blinking since it may results in severe damage to your engine.

@yaser
Yup. As soon as I see a flashing engine light, I pull over as soon as possible!
