Hi Scotty, I have a 2011 HHR , 83,000 miles. Some times when I start it up the defroster and heater wont blow. Then when I drive, it seams if I hit a bump it comes on, but not all the time. Then when I get home its working when I shut it off, but the next time I start it up it usually wont be working. Next issue is my heated driver seat, I had a beach towel over it when I was working to protect the seat. It stopped working, the little lights on the switch just blink now. I looked in the owners manual and it said not to have anything over the seats when using the heat function. I checked fuses and couldn't find any bad ones. What do you think? Thanks Tom Accuntius
Check all blower electrical connections and components for corrosion and loose connections, as well as possible burnt wiring or connectors due to excess current being drawn by the 11-year-old blower motor. When I had a similar problem the connector for the blower had worked partially free due to vibration over time.
As far as the seat heater, check that +12V is being delivered at the heater connection under the seat when turned on. If no power, check switches, fuses, relays, and wiring. If there is power then the wires in the heating grid have likely been damaged. They get brittle with age and are wired in series, so a break anywhere in the grid knocks the entire seat heater out. Repair involves pulling out the seat and taking the upholstery apart to repair or replace the heating grid. (I got tired of taking apart the driver's seat in my car every time a wire in the grid broke and just bought an aftermarket seat heating pad that straps to the seat with elastic and plugs into the cigarette lighter. Works great.)
