Blowing ignition coils

Hey Scotty, I've got a 2000 VW Cabrio MK3.5 with a 2.0aba 5speed at 159,000mi that has blown 7 ignition coils in the last 4 months, just had a Bosch melt thru the top. Had a maf code, cleaned it and hasn't thrown the code since. Car runs great aside that, so I'm very stumped! The Bosch ignition coil lasted about 1,500 miles. No cel, no codes. New plugs, wires, dist cap & rotor, engine timing is spot on.
Bad ground somewhere perhaps, or voltage regulator issue?

Bad grounds often do that check that first

Also check your alternator output.  The voltage regulator may be messed up.
