Should I buy this 2013 BMW 1 series?

Hi Scotty and all auto experts,

One of my friends is getting an offer from his cousin for a 2013 BMW 1 series 1.6 RWD which is 120,000 km for 1700 KD (around 5500 USD). Although I am not a fan of BMW's, not sure about the 1 series. However, 2 or 3 people who I have met have lesser things to complain about the 1 series.

What do you reckon. Is it a worth buy or will it be a money pit as it ages like its siblings.

Never buy assets (especially mechanical ones) from friends/family.

What could possibly go wrong with a 10yr old high mileage BMW + cheap plastic + the middle eastern heat?

Unless it’s a vanity purchase (bragging rights), steer clear. Besides, everybody knows a 1 series is not a real BMW..

No doubt. It will become a money pit. You know what BMW stands for? Broke My Wallet.

With that said, the only 1 series I would entertain the idea of purchasing would be if it came with an Inline 6 engine and a manual transmission. That much power in a little car would be fun. Alas, if someone had one of those, they probably drove it like mad, so double due diligence would need to be done.

They Phased out the I6 on this model by 2011. Since then it was TC Inline 4 and Inline 4 models only.
