Hey Scotty,

What do you think of this BMW the M240i, it has the inline six and zf 8 speed tranny from the Supra so what reliablility issues would I have buying a 2017 model?

Sheesh! You are still hell bent on M240i, aren’t you? It’s been precisely a month from today when you made your previous inquiry, … answer, I believe, may just be the same? Dunno, … but search function resides in upper right corner.

I just wanted an answer from Scotty, he skipped over my question he answered the question before and after mine and I just want his opinion. Sorry, I don't mean to be repetitive. Also, what do you think of the C5 corvette z06. I answer many more questions than I ask so I feel I don't take advantage of you all. But I hope you all don't feel that way.

I understand, … I just didn't feel like typing much this very a.m., … forgive me.

As to Corvette, … I never even sat in one. Never had any interest in one. But that just me, … but my BMW fetish ended a long time ago! Last one I owned was ‘79 E21. After that, just idle chats and occasional spin in friends BMWs. My BMW was replaced by ‘04 Miata, … now on blocks, awaiting spring and a near mountain roads!

It is fine, I know what it is like having to work every morning. Good luck and have fun with that Miata!

If you watch Scotty’s videos, you pretty much know his answer to this:  lease, not buy, to get out of your system.  Plenty of people do that who must have a BMW.

Otherwise, too many complicated electronic systems on board (you have to look at the full package not just engine and tranny) that it is not worth owning for most of us unless you don’t mind throwing away hard-earned money and/or you really know how to work on modern BMWs yourself (say like an expert BMW mechanic) who can also get parts at wholesale prices and fix stuff himself.

You are probably right. about what he would say. This BMW is the least complex electronically in their line up, so it at least won't be as bad as the higher tech ones. Could you give me a few examples of how the electronics that fail and what I should look out for. I am still considering other cars but this and the corvette are what I am thinking of getting.

Yes, it has the inline six and ZF 8-speed in the new Toyota Supra, but that doesn't mean anything in terms of reliability. That is BMW's engine in the first place that is being used in Toyota's new Supra (the new Supra is basically a BMW...almost everything is BMW parts, not Toyota parts). I will say that the ZF transmission is super reliable, and BMW's new inline six engine hasn't had any major issues so far.

I heard that Toyota tested the engine and it met their standards for reliability and also tweaked parts of they engine to make it more reliable than original design giving more power and torque also,
