- I have a 1998 BMW Z3 with the 1.9l engine (M44 engine). When I bought the car the owner said that it had a turbo. I have been looking stuff up about the car, and everything says the 1.9/M44 is a naturally aspirated motor. Was there a specific model of this motor that had a turbo, or was the owner that sold it to me mis informed.

The engine from the factory is naturally aspirated. However, there are aftermarket turbo kits available for the engine.
The previous probably just hoped & prayed Santa magically installed a turbo on his Z3, one snowy Christmas morning.
