[Solved] new brake discs + pads are squeaking

Hi there. I've got a Volvo V40 in the UK(if that matters). My spring coils were coroded so i had to replace them as it's mandatory here. On that occasion i changed my brake pads and disks and started to hear some that squicky noise. First happened while reversing and the mechanic changed from the left to the right(u gut the idea). Now the noise is worse when i go forward.

PS: FERODO brake pads+ disks and erbauer spring coils if that matters. Any help would be appreciated. 😇

Do you have Akebono pads available for your vehicle, in the UK?

Disc brakes do have a tendency to squeal, caused by the pads vibrating. Some pad compounds are worse than others for noise. There is a goop that can be spread on the back of the pads to prevent this.

how far have you driven on the new brake hardware?

when they are new they are very shy, and don't get very close together.

It takes some time for pads and discs to become bedded together so they mate up properly.

Once that happens they settle down.

Brake dust can also build up during that break-in process so give the pads a good blast with brake cleaner.

If none of that helps, they're just crappy pads.

@MountainManJoe driven less that 100miles. Can't drive on them. Waiting to get them replaced for 4 days already but it's on the garage expenses so i doubt they will get them quick. I've ordered that brake cleaner and hope that helps in the short term. 🤞. I expected Ferodo to be better than this but hey.. made in china says it all. 😔

@mountainmanjoe What happens after they settle down? Do new pads & rotors appear after ~ 9 months?

@inthrustwetrust
I wish, haha.
No, they just get very heated, cause a lot of friction, and sometimes get bent out of shape. Over time, they gradually wear each other down, until they finally crumble apart and become a hazard to everyone around them.

You should see my brake disks. After 2 3 brakes you cannot touch them even if i would pay you. A friend was joking that id he can cook eggs on my disks 🙁 . Maybe they've installed them wrong?! Would that be an possibility?!
