Broken trunk strut repair or replace?

Hello everyone,

I have an 08 Lexus GS350 AWD and my left side rear trunk strut broke at the Rod End Ball socket, the Tube End Ball Socket seems to be fine. Is there a way to repair the Ball Socket ends or should I replace both. If I should replace both, may anyone please recommend the best brands, OEM or third party?

Regards,

Just throw both trunk struts away and get new ones. That car is 16 years old, now. OEM will last longer, but it's not a critical component like Macpherson struts or shocks. If you want to go El cheapo, aftermarket parts are fine.

I gave it a good look, the screw treads for the Ball Socket joints are fine. I only have to get new Ball Socket joints and screw them on. However, I will go forward with your advice. Thank you so much!
