1995 Buick supercharger rattling

My 95 Buick Riviera has a rattling noise and it's coming from the supercharging. My question is can I just rebuild it by taking the nose off and changing the gear or do I have to get a whole new supercharger? My car only has 142,000 mi on it

If you know what you are doing, you can rebuild it but it is not a simple process. I would recommend a new supercharger.

Thanks, thought I could take off the nose and replace the round plastic piece

If it's rattling, it probably needs new bearings at each end of the intake rotors.  Should be an easy rebuild, press out, press in, if you can get the bearings.

I've pulled and pressed bearings on electric motors using heat, wonder if I can do the same?

Why not?  Put the supercharger veins in the freezer and heat up the new bearings and put it all together.  VOILA!

I see on YouTube that a lot of people think that most of the time it is just the coupler that needs to be changed

How often is it the coupler in the supercharger that causes the rattling.

Several choices here, the fist is the easiest.

1.  Pull the hex plug from the front of the supercharger and check the oil level.  It should be to the bottom of the plug.  Special GM oil required.

2.  Buy a reman part Rock Auto Cardone 2R102 - $676.99

3.  Get a new coupling - Rock Auto Dorman 917022 - $12.30

4.  Get a proper rebuild kit, available from jonbondperformance.com

Good Luck!
