I have a 2006 ford f150 5.4l with 225,000 original engine and transmission it has a burnt oil smell coming from the driver side of the engine
PS to all who say the 5.4l 3v is bad I have owned my since new and have never had a problem with cam phasers or any of the common failure points on that engine

Change the PCV valve if you haven't done so in a while. And give the engine a really thorough inspection for leaks. Try one of the UV trace dyes if you have to.
judging from the evidence, the 3v engines ARE bad compared to others, but you've been lucky. Stay on those regular oil changes and keeping the engine clean, and hopefully you can continue to sidestep that weakness.
