Buy new toyota corrola?

I've  heard you talk about Toyota oil consumption. I was thinking of a toyota corrola from a dealer(any recalls or problems?). I would like to buy a new car to replace my 2000 Mercury Sable w/24v dohc motor, 175,000 miles.  Doesn't  use any oil and everything works.  Need to replace struts w/kyb and lower ball joints.  Been very good car.  25 mph.  Chg oil at 5000 miles with Mobil 1 10w-30w and MC filter. (Kinda hot north of Houston now).  Put a drain plug on the transmission and drain every 10,000 miles and chg filter and fluid every 30,000. Would you recommend  waiting for car prices to drop? Should I  keep driving this car? I know I  won't get squat for such an old car.  Hasn't  been a money pit.  Did tuneup, pvc,Spark plugs and boots.  Chgd all hoses.  Chg antifreeze every 4 years w/extended life green and dist. water .  Don't  want to get fleeced at a dealer. I can wait.  Just would like an honest opinion on their motors, transmissions etc. from someone that has dealings with Toyota.

Thanks in advance!
