Buying a car

Hey there, I am in the market and I am going to check out a 2009 BMW 335i with 113,000 miles on the odometer, it is automatic and a private party sale. I just want to know what should I look at or look for before purchasing?

An aging somewhat high millage BMW?

“what can go wrong…”

Hopefully this money pit is at least cheap to purchase.

You’re gonna wanna take it to a mechanic so that he checks it out before purchase - there’s so much that can wrong with these.

Scotty of course would warn you that BWM's are money pits, which they are.  And then he would say that you should "have it inspected by a mechanic like me" before you buy it.

You can also check the video reviews at the bottom of our main page to see if he's done a video about it.

Pass on those - they are money pits.  Only way to own one of those is if you are a German/European mechanic guru like The Car Wizard or LegitStreetCars and know where to get parts (and not get ripped off) as well as able to do all the work yourself.   No problem for those guys, but for the rest of us we are wise to shy away from an older, higher mileage German money pit car.  Chances are if you were one of those guys you wouldn’t have to ask us here what to look for.
