Hello everyone,
I am getting ready to graduate from college in a couple of months and the vehicle I have now is a 2008 dodge Dakota V6 with 90,000 miles on it. It does have low miles but it has been nothing but problems for me and I would like to buy a different truck before graduating and moving to my new job which is a 16 hour drive from where I am now.
I am looking for something that is relatively cheap under 25 thousand dollars and I was recently approached by my best friend who told me his grandpa is looking at selling his 2005 Chevy 1500 HD 6.0L that has 60,000 miles on it for $12,000 and his grandpa is the original owner. The truck is in great condition but the steering column may need some work from what I am told.
My question to you folks is this a good idea for me to buy an older truck than the one that I have now for a daily driver or should I go to a dealership and look for a newer truck for under 25 thousand dollars?
If I went to a dealership I would take out an auto loan where as If I bought the Chevy 1500HD I would pay for it in cash.
Thanks!
What is your maximum budget for paying cash? Also you said daily driver, do you need to have a truck as a daily driver? It's not the best option when it comes to gas mileage. If you have the $25k in cash and you plan on keeping the car/truck buy a brand new Toyota Tacoma base model. I think with $25k cash you would need at most $5k ish more to buy one (depending on where you live as far as taxes and registration).
I have about 8k in cash and I was planning on selling the Dakota for around 4k-5k. The job that I will start when I graduate will give me a work truck so the truck that I buy will mostly be used on the weekends but I would like it to be a 4x4 truck. Thank you I will definitely take a look at the base level Tacoma!
