Should I buy a Honda CR-Z in New Zealand?

Hi Scotty From New Zealand

Looking at buying a used car from a dealer, I currently have a 2004 Toyota Corolla however I want to upgrade to something a bit more zippy yet still reliable. I’m researching the Honda CRZ but I’m a bit stuck, everywhere I’ve read and people I’ve talked to have said they’re great cars, however my brother believes they are money pits. Looking at 2 2010 models. 1 manual one automatic. Manual is $11,000 NZD asking price with 52,000 miles. Automatic is $9,000 Asking price with 67,000 miles. Both from dealers however I would haggle the price down. Do CRZ’s have a good reputation in America?

A used hybrid is always a gamble.

A regular petrol Civic is also zippy, while being reliable. Is there anything else in particular about your requirements, that makes you consider the CR-Z?

If a Civic doesn’t cut the bacon, what about a manual Nissan 350/370Z? Or Toyota AE86/BRZ?

Not many CRZ's were built.  So, there could be problems accessing parts in the future.

Get a manual Civic if you want a zippy car. In my opinion, CRZ is a weird car and if you want a hatch, you better off with a Civic.
