I'm looking to buy a truck and one of my favorites are the dodge ram power wagons..
I found a used one at a BMW dealership 2017 Dodge Ram power wagon. Has 56,000 miles and it's going for $47,000... from the pictures it looks very good taken care of... is this a good truck or a good buy?
Thanks for helping me ✌️
I would pass. At that age, it is just out of the standard warranty, and you don’t want to be stuck without warranty coverage on RAMs. Even aside from the powertrain, the materials and electronics just don’t hold up well over time.
Nothing with the name Dodge on it would interest me, at all, at any price.
I would rather spend $47k on a new 2022 RAM pickup
then I would hope you had at least another $16k

My bad. The truck I was referring to was a regular RAM 1500.

That's crazy. I would rather spend $47k on a new 2022 RAM pickup truck instead of a 5 year old RAM pickup truck.
The Power Wagon is one of Ram's better efforts recently. But that's faint praise.
Like the TFL guys say, "Power Wagon don't care" (I think they even made t-shirts with that slogan). Awesome ability, and more nimble off road than you would think.
But between being a 3/4 ton truck and also an off-roader, PW's often put in some tough miles. Add in the fact that it's a Chrysler family product and is off warranty as D-dubya says above, the risk for high $$ repairs is real.
At that asking price, it's definitely worth having a pro mechanic check the engine and transmission. And even with that, you will want a cushion (probably at least $5k) in reserve in case something breaks after you get it home. (Probably also want a $5k cushion for gas, those things need a lot of it.)
I remember the TFL episodes on the Power Wagon. I think Nathan coined that phrase. I enjoy their channel.
