Scotty, I live in Northern Wisconsin (keep this in mind due to the snow and salt they use to melt the snow in winter). I’m looking for a durable used pickup that I primarily want to haul my boat in the summer, but will also most likely be my primary personal vehicle. I have a work vehicle, so in all reality I probably only put on somewhere between 10-20 miles on my personal vehicle a week for things such as groceries/errands. Based on what I’ve seen, I’m currently looking at 1990’s F-Series trucks based on what I’ve seen about them allegedly being “bulletproof” and also used Ford Rangers. I’m thinking of purchasing off of a car lot vs. private seller just because I’m leery of any issues a private seller may not be aware of/may not disclose. Any suggestions as far as looking for 20+ year old Fords, especially in my area of the US where rusting is a more common issue? Would it really be a good idea to spend money on 20+ year old Ford pickups, or do you have a better suggestion and what should I look for, especially concerning the rust we typically see on vehicles here in Northern Wisconsin?
If you really want a reasonably rust-free 20-year-old or older Ford (or anything) unless you get real lucky you'll probably need to go out of your area and buy a truck from the South or West. There are even entrepeneurs in the rust belt that "import" vehicles from salt-free areas to sell, you might check around for someone like that in your area.
