Hi. I’ve had, since new, a Camry 2006 LE (automatic, V6 3.0L; see attachment). I have been having problems with the transmission for about 2 years. When it is stopped for several hours, it does not start in drive. We have to leave it on for a minimum of 30 minutes to start the drive. After waiting, it works perfectly normal. We have a strong guessing that what’s happening is a transmission problem. I would also like to know if there is a way to buy a new transmission and simply replace it or have it repaired by a technician.
1. Where’s the attachment?
2. A lot of vehicles won’t crank if the shifter is in D.
3. Have you already scanned for any codes?
4. Get a thorough diagnosis of the problem from a professional transmission shop first, before buying/replacing the transmission.
Neutral safety switch? Like InThrustWeTrust said, a lot(if not most) cars with auto trans are not supposed to be able to be started in Drive. Put it in Park.
