I'm not talking about drag strip power,...Just passing power. Bought this car from a little ol'lady with only 41K on it. After driving my way for two weeks reeducated the computer a bit. It now is a bit more responsive. But I'd like a bit more oomph to its passing ability. Added a K&M air filter and new plugs already. What might i be missing? 
With Hyundai engines you're lucky that thing is running at all after 17 years. I would expect attempts to coax much more power out of that engine will just hasten its demise.

No. Don't push it or it'll blow up. Especially junky Korean engines/transmission.

What might i be missing?
Nothing. When you stick a little 2L engine in a 2 ton SUV, you have a receipt for an underpowered and overstressed powertrain. It is what it is.
