Can B Bus Circuit Open and High

Hi,

I have a 2009 Jeep Patriot, 146K mileage, 4 cyl auto. Just had some work done on it and I decided to run Blue Driver. I received code U0021 and U0026. Is this a complicated fix? Can someone with little repair experience do? Is it something that can be lived with?

Thanks.

You can live with it but just because the codes were triggered doesn't mean the conditions persist.

Erase the codes and see if they return.

The "B" CAN Bus is the slower speed CAN Bus which communicates/controls "low priority" modules.

Stuff like the radio, A/C, power seats, SKREEM [keyless remote functions]......

(as opposed to the faster "C" Can Bus which has "high priority" modules on it like ABS brake module and TCM [transmission control module])

So without an expensive scanner you'd start unplugging the control modules on the B CAN Bus, one by one, to see if there's an internal fault that's triggering the Code(s) in one of them. Then you'd have to start examining the B CAN Bus twisted pair wires for opens or shorts.

Someone with an expensive scanner could quickly see which module(s) can't communicate on the Bus and isolate the problem in a matter of minutes.

Thanks jack, I plan to clear the codes, disconnect the battery and see if they return.

I would not be at all surprised if the aftermarket scan tool caused the codes I have seen that many times primary can comm codes cause by aftermarket scanners. They are not made to be 100% compatible with all vehicles and communicate at specific can speeds for all makes and models that’s why there generic . As long as everything in the car is working as it should I wouldn’t be at all concerned by those codes they can come and go but if you wanted to be sure clear the codes and get it scanned by a different or preferably oem scanner and see if codes persist

Thanks for the info. I used the Blue Driver scan tool that Scotty recommended. I charged up the battery but the charger indicated bad battery, so I'm taking it in and have it and the alternator checked out and see if that solves it.
