It seems your are getting multiple signal related failures. That would indicate a bigger electrical issue. Have your battery + alternator tested, and look for damaged wiring harnesses.
yeah, it's starting to sound like you have a bad electrical connection to your transmission. Inspect it your self, or take it to an auto electrical specialist.

Is it something a person with little to no repair experience can do? Is it an expensive fix, or can it be lived with for a few years?
