I have a 2016 GMC Canyon 2.8L Diesel 4X4 with 41,000 miles. The owners manual calls for a transmission fluid and filter change every 45,000 miles. The truck has a closed system and I have one of those vacuum pumps that can transfer fluids both into and out of the engine or transmission. Can I get by evacuating the transmission fluid and replacing it without changing the filter? I know if the transmission fluid is dirty I should take it to the shop and have filter changed. If it looks clean, can I wait until 90,000 miles?
You should pull the pan, clean and remove the metal from the magnet and install a new filter. then fill with new fluid. Don't jack around and do it right.
Maybe, but why gamble? If there is nothing obstructing access to the pan, it is an easy job to do yourself and costs very little.
That's probably the best option.
