Are the cvt transmissions in the newer Honda Civics any good?
As in 2016 2017+ Models,? they are perfectly fine I would not worry.
Yes they are pretty reliable. The first years they came out like the 2013 Accord and 2015 CR-V has minor issues but the Civic's are pretty good I wouldn't not buy a car because of that. Also, have a mechanic check out any car's transmission and if it is good it's a CIVIC go ahead.
Ive driven a five year old CRV with a CVT. It’s ok. It works. Almost 100,000 on it.
I’m just used to the feeling of a manual or automatic. CVT takes some getting used to.
A Honda CVT should be good for at least 190 200k miles before anything severe happens, assuming you do basic tranny maintenance.
Economically, manufacturers benefit from CVTs more than consumers. While providing better fuel economy, CVTs are cheaper to produce but don't last as long as conventional transmissions and are more expensive to repair. As with most manufactured products, the business model is "planned obsolescence", where consumers replace rather than repair.
Yes, but the Japanese care about their customers and since all japanese brands have started with CVT's, they have all been improving their quality, even Nissan for the matter of fact. A Honda CVT (if taken care of) should go 15 20 years. The CVT's they made in 2012 2013 are still standing even with 200k miles on them. Toyota and Honda definetly make quality CVT's when compared to the market. Honda makes better engines, toyota makes better transmissions. Thats how it goes.
My 2014 Honda Civic with CVT Transmission is good. There was recall on the transmission though and it needed a computer code installed to fix the problem. My car has 188,000 miles. Driving habits and proper maintenance can affect the transmission.
Yes you need to change the transmission fluid correctly and take care of it. This isn't the old manuel Civic that you can try to kill the standard transmission but fail, it WILL fall apart if you don't take care of it over time. If you do do very BASIC maintenance, it will last.
