My mom’s car, a 2014 Ford Fiesta with that Powershift transmission is in the shop for bodywork and she currently has a rental Hyundai Elantra (I think it’s a 2020). Would it be possible to buy and own a rental car?

You can buy rental cars all day long but I never would. They're generally pretty beat up.

good luck. Rental companies are short on cars. Doubtful they would give up a 2020. You don't want a Hyundai anyway.
