I have a 2007 Chevy Impala with right at 160k miles on it. Bought it 3 years ago and has been a great car. The a/c just stopped working one day recently so I took it to a shop. The guy pops the hood, shines the light on the passenger side, saw the green liquid that spewed everywhere and said the compressor went out. Could it be that or could it be just a line busted?

Could be.
But 99% chance it's not. It's usually the moving parts (compressor).
If you don't trust your mechanic, then get a second opinion at a different shop.
