I have a 2013 Toyota Camry SE with 154,000 Miles, about a month ago when I tried turning it on the ignition failed and check engine light came on, took it to my mechanic he hooked up his scan tool and said it was the motor, he deleted it and said if it pops back up we have to replace it.. $3500. So now I just hold the key turned until the car fully kicks on. Sometimes it’ll turn on automatically and sometimes I’ll have to leave it turned until it does, and the check engine light will come and go, what should I do Scotty??

Could you clarify you problem. Is the starter cranking without the engine starting, or is it that you are turning the key and holding it until the starter cranks?
