I’m about to buy a 5speed Honda or Toyota and I’m wondering how specific I should be with where it was assembled. Are Japan and Canadian made vehicles/assembled that much better then U.S? Is it a big enough deal not to buy the car?

It won't make any real difference. In fact Scotty has said quite a few times that he's found Canadian-built vehicles to be well put together.

Just be glad that they aren’t made in China..
