Can’t get my key out of my ignition

I have a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with 109k miles on it. Lately whenever I put the vehicle in park I cannot get my key out of the ignition. I can turn the vehicle off but I can’t turn it to the last click so I can take the key out. The only way I can is if I move the shifter around in the park position and I eventually hear a click and then I can remove the key. Could this be the shift interlock module and if so should I get this part from a junkyard or buy it brand new? (Costs about $500 US brand new) What is the issue?

Generally, there is a switch under the shifter next to the park position that locks the car key when car is not in park. Yours seems to be acting up and needs to be changed.

How much does the junkyard part cost?

Not too sure. I think it depends on the junkyard but they usually charge a lot less than a brand new part.

If you’re okay with gambling, sure, try your luck.
