So I my brother is offering me a car to buy, it’s a 94 Caprice with 135k miles, it’s in pretty good shape for a 30 year old car for 3 thousand. Or should I buy something off Facebook of people I don’t know and May or may not know the full extent of the car. I don’t really care what I drive as long as it’s reliable and not a pile of junk. Thank you for any and all tips.
Sounds like too much money for a 30-year-old car that's not particularly a collector's item. Will you be working on it yourself? Since the car is pre-OBD2 a lot of mechanics will not want to touch it.
Even if it's basically sound there will be an increasing number of old car issues to deal with over time as rubber parts, sensors, wiring, etc. deteriorate due to age. If you're going to have to take it to a mechanic every time something goes wrong it's very likely to nickel and dime you to death.
The is actually in very good condition. It’s a got a L99 4.3L V8. My brother owns a shop he has a mechanic there that’s been working cars since the 90s. He’s been checking it out, of course it has its 30 year car issues but nothing I can’t handle lol.
