2007 Ford Focus, 118k miles, automatic
I had just sold this car days ago to this older couple, and they needed help changing a tire. So I showed up and helped them.
Jacked up the car, just one side. The right side. And was using two scissor jacks.
Well it fell off halfway up, both jacks fell. Car fell onto ground.
I jacked it up as quick as I could, looked underneath. Did not really see any damages. But idk
My question is, does one side falling off halfway, onto mainly grass/dirt usually cause serious damage?
I saw some trans fluid leaking I think, but may have already been leaking. Not sure. I dont see damage on the pan.
Another **question** would insurance cover this? I still have it insured with full coverage.
Car fell onto ground.
and? what part of the car did it land on? Were the wheels on?
If not then you need to get the car on a lift and have a mechanic inspect it. Especially the exhaust, oil pan, and transmission pan.
Always use wheel chocks to prevent this from happening.
would insurance cover this?
how are we supposed to know what your plan covers? Read your policy or talk to your agent.
For the future, one trick I use to layer safety upon safety upon safety.
For example, I will use jacks, jack stands, wheel chocks, and an actual tire. If possible, I put the tire under the car, near the jack stand, in the case of jack or jack stand failure. I haven't had a jack or jack stand fail yet, but it's always good to be prepared just in case.
