scotty,  following local news and national news there's a lot of cars catching fire for no reason, what gives? i think last good car was a ford model a.

There's always a reason, and I bet it's neglect a significant portion of the time.


The Ford model A made 8hp and didn't have a roof 😆

Neglect is a large part of it. It has been a lot colder than normal and a lot of people are having to use their car heaters who probably have rarely, if ever, had to before. If there is old wiring and a short, well, break out the s'mores.

I did some research. The number of annual vehicle fires now  is less than half of what it was in the 80s.

Statistics say fuel leaks are the #1 cause.

 

(I think the top cause in 2020 was "peaceful protesters".)

Put in context, the number of cars catching on fire divided by the total number of cars on the road is still fairly small.  I would not lose sleep over it, unless you are driving an EV (j/k).
