Scotty has the car jack ever gave out while you were working under the car? I Remember it happened to me. I Rember those stupid Chinese jack I used to have. And I broke when I was jacking it up so. I don’t want to be hurt with a couple broken ribs.
Anyone who knows what they are doing is not going to get under a car supported only by a jack.
Oh man I guess I’ve lived
Life on the edge..

Do they fail? A few months ago a guy got crushed by a Prius when he got under it with only a scissor jack and tried cutting out the catalytic converter. With scissor jacks, the only thing supporting the car is a handful of screw threads. With hydraulic jacks, a few gaskets and hoses/lines, with the old style tower jacks that hooked up to cars' bumpers, the latch could break, the car could fall off, the stand itself could fall over or buckle... I had a floor jack rupture on me a few months ago when I was jacking up my girlfriend's car, trying to get wood under the wheels. My bottle jack in my truck binded up last summer when I was lifting it to install manual hub locks. @chucktobias is 100% spot on. If you need to be told to not rely on a jack to support a car when you're under it, you probably shouldn't be under there. They fail all the time.
