Save a life or ten Scotty; jacking safety

Scotty, I retired after 29 years as a cop. Please do a video on the safest ways to jack up a car to get under it. I saw more than one man die a terrible death when a car fell on him. I never get under a car that’s jacked up. I changed a few starters by parking half my car on the curb and chocked the wheels. I also blocked the car from behind with another car. You have enough pull to save a life or ten. Thanks.

Honestly. There are many steps to ensuring the car is stable before crawling under. But ensure the car does not shift/roll. I always use more than the recommended jack stands, at least 4 to 8 if it half or all the way off the ground, I'll also lift the jack again so it's touching the lift point once the vehicle is rested on the stands. So basically at the least, my vehicle is always supported by 2 stands with 2 more stands tightly positioned as well as the jack supporting as another fail safe.

It's not meant for this kind of work, but RV jacks that ascend via threads were perfect for this kind of work.

Did you try searching? He already has videos.

I have personally noticed that on the Chrisfix videos, he always recommends putting a wheel underneath the car for extra safety after you take it off (in addition to the jack and the chock). To any friends looking to DIY their cars I always recommend the "hump check" you hump the car with all available passion in your pelvis at all 4 sides. If it does not budge away from your jacks or chocks after this then you are safe to go ahead with any slight knock or torque against some car part while you are working on it.

Once Scotty said that even if a car falls, it would still fall on its tyres so you wouldn't get crushed. Unfortunately this isn't true and I don't know why he thought this, especially the fact he said this a sentence after saying "modern cars are very low to the ground." So he technically does have a video on it, but I must be honest Scotty has much better videos than that one {black}:amazed:

Anyways, one updated video specifically for that might be helpful.

Two solutions:
1. If you care about your life, learn how to prevent being crushed before going under a car through research.

or 2. Buy a lifted Prius so you don't have to worry about being crushed when trying to repair your catylatic converter which inevitably will be stolen

Sorry. Couldn't tell. I used to be a Toyota guy as a tech before I learned Toyotas are engineered for techs, not the consumer.

no worries, thanks for helping us out here with the questions;)

It's been a pleasure. I'll be doing what I can from here on now.

In several videos Scotty mentioned usage of jackstands. But people are people. Some don't even read owners manuals.

Do not buy a Prius. I've had the pleasure of comparing those to the Insight for many years and while both have improved a lot, the Insight is where you'd like to be.

it was a joke man... {black}:surprised:
