Hi Scotty, I have a Toyota Corolla FX, 1987, about 79,000 miles, manual shift.
It has rough in idle on start up. When I connect a vac gauge to inlet port, it is stable initially in the green, then drops and goes up and down then drops and stalls. Is this the ERG valve switching open too early. What should I check to determine the problem. Thanks, yours Peter

You mean EGR. (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)
You can test by plugging it off and see if anything changes. You should also be testing for vacuum leaks. I bet there's some rotten hoses after 4 decades.
