1986 Porsche 928 how would you start to clean the fuel system that you can put new fuel to start and run the car.

The gas smells like paint thinner because, for all practical purposes it is now paint thinner.  If it were mine, I would drain or siphon every drop of fuel out that I could and change out the fuel filter.

Unless it was run dry every part of the fuel system is gunked up with gum and varnish and will need to be cleaned or replaced.

@Doc is right....after sitting that long, it is pretty much turpentine, i.e. paint thinner.

You'll need to drain and clean the entire fuel system before trying to turn it over.
