Does the bad efficiency of catalytic converters effect the fuel economy, if yes. How much ? Thanks
Yes. Maybe a lot.
Thanks joe. That means it is worth it to change it rather than driving like that
It’s 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8S with 172000 km on it
alright, the car isn't worth a whole lot so maybe it's not worth it.
But you need to start at the beginning please, instead of trying different answers then us guessing what the problem is.
What symptoms does your vehicle have?
and also , do you have emissions testing where you live?
IMHO, hypothetically speaking, yes.
Think of your engine like your nose. It’s hard to breathe with a clogged nose.
You inhale at the intake, and exhale through the exhaust. If your cat is clogged, it makes it hard for your car to breathe. Thus it can’t work as efficiently.
an "inefficient" CC is not necessarily broken up and clogged inside. The catalytic metals could just be depleted, which can trigger trouble codes. The ceramic substrate could still be full intact.
Quite true. With the cars I’ve had, the only ones I’ve seen fail, failed by getting all clogged up. But you are right, they can fail another way.
