Hey Scotty! My fiance just got a 2012 Toyota Camry with 129,000 miles on it. I know the transmission fluid has never been changed before. Would it be ok to change out the transmission fluid with as many miles as it has on it, or should I stay away from that?

is the transmission shifting ok now? what does the fluid look like? post a photo if you can

MountainManJoe..... It is shifting pretty smoothly. The shift from 4th to 5th gear when the car is cold and you are light on the gas is a little rough, but that is the only thing.

If you Change the fluid, and the transmission is already worn out, you’ll have problems. If you don’t change the fluid, you will for sure wear out the transmission and have problems.

The only path, if there is one, to making your fiancé’s transmission last is to change the fluid.

if a lot of those 129k miles are highway miles, your transmission is more likely to be OK, and it’s probably worth changing the fluid.
