My check engine light just came on in my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. What's a good inexpensive scan tool to see what's going on. I don't plan on doing the repairs myself, just would like something to see whats going on so I don't feel ripped off at the repair shop.

Based on Scotty's recommendation I bought an inexpensive CGSULIT SC301 scan tool. This is actually the next model up from the one he demonstrated. Seems to do quite a bit for $60. (I bought it mainly because it has more capacity for recording live data than my 1990s-era Tech2.)
