Hello Scotty, hope all is well on your end. Have a 2014 Acura TL. The engine light will start blinking when driving on highway and stepping on the gas pedal. Starts to vibrate and lose some power. Will pull over, turn off the engine and turn it back on and the blinking check engine light will go away. If this happens three times, on the 4th one, the check engine stays solid. I am getting very poor gas mileage and also been using a gas additive called Xcaps that’s suppose to increase octane, clean engine and provide lower emissions. Once the check engine light stays solid, able to drive no problem, but mpg is no good. What could be the issue as I took it to my mechanic and he’s saying it could be a computer issue?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Do not put those capsules in your gas tank. Those things are a total scam.

If your car is getting terrible gas mileage you should have a mechanic check it out to find out what the problem is..

No additive or magic capsule will improve gas mileage.

stop using them immediately. Read "how to avoid scams" at the bottom of our front page.

the check engine light goes off.

just because the light goes off, that doesn't mean the codes disappear. They should be stored in the computer. You just need a good scanner.

You're probably misfiring and damaging your catalytic converter.

You do realize that a blinking check engine light means "stop driving immediately to avoid engine damage".

What codes were found? Was live data checked? You need a mechanic like Scotty who will do an in-depth diagnosis rather than guessing. If you can provide some details we may be able to point you in the right direction.

No codes were found because when I stop and turn off the engine, the check engine light goes off. This usually happens late at night when doing Uber and all shops are closed. When the solid check engine light stays on, the next morning when I start the car, it goes away.

Does your car require premium gas only? It will say in your owner's manual.

Well I couldn't wild guess that one without seeing the vehicle and hooking up my scan tool and road testing it. There are hundreds of possible codes. It could be a computer problem. It could be all kinds of other things. If you're in the Clarksville, Tennessee area, I check them out free. You can bring it over here during the week when I'm filming and I'd figure out what's going on. But if you're far away, try to find a good mechanic or really knows the stuff because it gets really complicated when they act like that

Whoever you're having check out the problem needs to dig deeper with a professional-grade scan tool.
