Is a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice with 450k miles reliable?
450,000 miles for any car is very high. Are you thinking about this particular car? I would pass on it with that mileage, even if it was a Toyota. Also, it is 25 years old, which is old for a daily driver (if you were thinking of using it for that).
Thats about right, my parents originally bought the Caprice brand new in 1996 and drove the car until it was left to sit in my front yard 5 years ago, but what really got me to think about the reliability was the fact that when the car used to run people would always ask if the car was for sale.
If you’ve got it for free, just keep driving it with minimal maintenance, until the wheels fall off. Who knows ow much life is left in the engine & transmission. But don’t think you can put 20,000 miles a year & not have to put any new parts in.
