Hi Scotty,
My family member has a Chevrolet Matiz 2004, Petrol. She was driving down the road and suddenly she said that the car stopped driving right and hear like a snap sound. She parked the car over, and I went to take a look at the the next day. I checked all the fundamentals before trying to crank the engine... oil level, coolant, fuel tank level (added some more fuel just to make sure its not empty and its a bad fuel indicator), I also checked the timing belt to make sure that it didnt snap.
I tried to start the engine. The starter runs and it turns the engine over, however the car wont start at all. I checked the spark plugs, they seem alright and produce a spark. I also made sure that the fuel pump is 'priming' when I turned the ignition on, and that the fuel pump relay is clicking, however, nothing. When we trying to crank the engine, you can see the timing belt turning a bit slow.
I don't believe that its a bad starter since she was driving the car when the car started running poorly.
Do you have any ideas on troubleshooting the issue? Could it be a camshaft or a crankshaft issue as something snapped ?
Thank you
remove the belt and see if it starts up.
Try to start the car using starter fluid.
I'm thinking its a timing issue. The timing cover has upper and lower sections. Remove the upper and check the belt...it should be very tight. If not, the timing is out of sync. That means bent push rods and valves, possible piston damage. Would require removing the head or using a borescope to inspect.
If the crankshaft broke the engine wouldn't crank.
If the camshaft snapped it could turn over, but never start. Remove valve cover to see camshaft.
