I just bought a 2011 Chevy equinox 158,000 miles for $5200
Is there any way to check if the transmission fluid has been changed before?

Ask to see the service records on the vehicle, which you should have done before even considering buying it.

The time to check that would have been during the pre-purchase inspection. If it has a dipstick you can easily check condition of the fluid. (At 158K miles if it's never been changed that will be very evident.)
