How do I change a camshaft in a 2002 Chevy impala?

What engine is in it? I think on some of the FWD GM 3.8's you can remove the passenger tire & pull the cam out thru there. But obviously you have to remove the timing cover, water pump, harmonic balancer, disconnect some sensors & radiator hoses. Then you'll have to removing the timing chain, tensioner and cam/crank gear. Then you'll actually be able to access the cam itself. There's more to it but its a pretty intense job. What's wrong with the car? If the cam wore out, theres a good chance alot of other internal components are pretty weak too. Might now be worth the time/ money.
