Choice between Cargo or Passenger vans

Hi Scotty,

I want to begin a nomadic life with the time I have left, on this planet.  I know you’re a big fan of Toyota, and it’s logical that I should choose a Sienna, but I need other choices to make a final selection.  My research indicates the 2013 Sienna is the best choice for a used minivan. But, I have some mobility issues that are getting progressively worse.  So, I’m wondering; should I really be considering a cargo or passenger van?  If yes, which van and year would you suggest?  It’s almost impossible to find an affordable vehicle, in Chicago.  I haven’t had a vehicle in 7 years and my mechanic has retired, so I’d really appreciate any recommendations you can provide.

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Hi Linda,

Did you end up getting a Sienna? Or...?

No. I haven’t purchased anything yet. But, I plan on making a purchase this month. I’m leaning toward the Sienna. I wish Toyota still made Previas or the Hiace. I’d feel better about a vehicle I can stand in. If Scotty liked any GMC, Ford or Chevy cargo van, I’d buy that and have the roof lifted. If he favored the Ford Transit I’d consider that too since I could buy a mid roof or high roof. But he doesn’t speak about his views on those vehicles. I need something reliable. Thanks for asking.

Cargo as in full-size van? Well they're bigger, but harder to get in and out of.

Yes, as in a full sized van. I had been considering an extended van with a lifted roof or something that came with a mid or high roof. Something with barn doors versus sliding doors.

Search the forum for the model name (Transit, Sprinter etc.) to get more info.

Look into getting a conversion van or a small motorhome. you won't be sorry.
