Hello Guys,
I just did a brake change on my car and managed to get brake dust and road grime on my clothes. I was wondering if there is any mechanic secret to getting car grime out of clothes? Do you guys have any tricks? I'm hoping I haven't ruined my favorite work khakis.
Thanks!
My trick is to wear clothes I don't mind getting dirty when working on cars
Same here, I have my car work clothes that are rather ragged and stained.
That's the way I do it as well. I keep a separate "wardrobe" of clothes for working on cars, made up mainly from regular clothes that have gotten old and worn.
Brake cleaner and blot with paper towels
After that, he will have the black and white "tie dye" look.
I've used it successfully. Of course you should always test on an inconspicuous area first.
Yes, you have ruined your khakis. I have a pair of overalls I keep in the garage specifically to work on cars.
I’ve had good luck with oxyclean. Plus blot liquid detergent directly on the spots before wash. But the brake dust may stay with you a while
I use Dawn dish detergent instead of laundry detergent to wash the greasy stuff. Buy a good set of coveralls to save your clothes.
