When driving my car for the first time in the morning there is a pop/clunk noise when taking off. The noise occurs after I warm up the car, disengage the parking brake and put it into gear. As soon as I begin to engage the clutch and try to takeoff the car will not be able to lurch forward, instead I hear the popping/ clunk sound from the front of the vehicle. The best way to describe it is it feels as if the parking brake is still engaged while trying to engage the clutch as The car struggles to move but eventually the pop sound occurs and the car can now lurch forward. After a few pops/ clunks my car drives normal and cannot be reproduced unless I let the car sit overnight without driving. Nothing else seems to be wrong except for this isolated incident when first driving the vehicle.
thank you Scotty
The front disc brake pads slide on pins that have probably become crudded up. I usually take the pins out, clean them on a wire wheel and apply high temperature disc brake grease to them so the pads slide properly. If this is not the issue, then sometimes, the brake pistons are sticking in their bore and the calipers need a rebuild kit or replacement.
Is the noise definitely coming from the front. Some of those had a fairly common axle click noise on take off from the rear. Otherwise if could definitely be the front brakes sticking or dragging
