Question: 2008 Matrix gives code P0741 (among 0171, 0101 & 0420) that TorqueConv.Clutch solenoid is easy to replace? or is it inside trans.?
How serious is the 0741 code?
Clarification: what is the mileage?
266k miles
It can be a number of things, but most aren't good: Worn valve body, internal component failure, or a malfunctioning torque converter.
No matter what, you'll have to drop the transmission to find the problem.
Can I (or should I) keep driving the car for grocery shopping? No more than 10 miles at a time and keeping the speed under 45mph? and avoiding heavy traffic.
I'm thinking of changing the trans fluid, filter and maybe the TCC solenoid.
I did clean the MAF Sensor and put a new air filter and codes P0101 & P0171 have cleared. So now I only get code P0420 and since I've been avoiding driving over 50mph I haven't got the P0741 code YET!
Thanks for the help!
Fixing a transmission can cost you a fortune to fix and since the car is old I say make it into a weekend toy or Walmart grocery shopping cart
Just drive as long as u can and don't spend fortune on it
Thank You. I had already considered that option.
I got one question, do you know if by driving it just for short trips and keeping it under 50mph, (all local roads I use are 45mph or under), will that keep the trans. from locking while driving?
I'm still considering the ATF, Filter & solenoid change, but scared that it might not do anything (especially the solenoid) $$$ LOL
Thank you!
