Now I know generally cold air intakes are pretty useless, just a waste of money, but Im mainly considering one so i can replace the crap one the car comes with my air filter box was missing a hook before and now the box won't close completely all the way. Is installing the cold air intake that bad of an idea?

If you intend to keep it a while, keep it OEM. If it has other problems and is nearing end of life, just do cheapest.
You are right performance effects will be negligible

Yeah i do really like the car for the features it has for a 2007 car, and the car still runs good it so I will probably just keep it how it is.

Good. Replacing a car these days is $$. Better the devil you know…

replace the hook

I already did but the box still won't close tight like it should

There are always zip ties.

Maybe that tabs aren't lined up correctly or something. Sometimes those air boxes can be a puzzle to put back together. But as long as you use OEM style filters, then there's no reason why it shouldn't close tightly.

Find another whole intact air box from a junkyard.
