Engine manufacturing plants as of 2010 (year I retired) can have super high psi washers/spray wands (same units used to water cut concrete bridge demo jobs etc.) to clean machining chips and sludge from blocks-heads- etc.
If and when the super high psi cleaning mechanisms-(similar to a large 4 cyl diesel) break they are expensive to repair (ceramic pistons on pumps etc) $30,000 or more for a rebuild etc.
Next thing you know city water pressure cleaning is the only game in town--temporary condition goes on for months, then years
Next thing you know maintenance is being asked why are so many head gaskets failing on engine auto leak test machines- final assembly
Operator points out most head leak rejects show chips - etc. smashed into head gaskets---this going on for months
Could this be why so many head gaskets fail on vehicles ???? Why groups of engines fail and others do not???
I bring forth this information as to the power of being clean while working on components
One of many. Yes, cleaning is required for a good job re: anything that is being repaired/manufactured.
