Conventional or Synthetic Oil?

Hi Scotty! I live in the deep South and drive a 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD PreRunner 2WD 4.0 L V6 with 80,000 miles. The manual calls for conventional motor oil. However, you always encourage people to use synthetic. Do you recommend I switch to synthetic? If so, what brand and weight? Thanks!

Nowhere in your manual does it call for conventional oil.  Page 455 and 456.  It calls for 5w30, GF-5 multigrade oil.

Switch to synthetic. Stick to the same viscosity that is recommended per your car user manual.

As for brand, use whichever ones meet the manufacturer specifications and standards listed in the owner’s manual.  Personally, once I find a brand I stick to that one moving forward, in my case it’s Mobil 1.

@daywalker - I prefer Castrol because I don't have to pay extra for the name Mobil.

Synthetic of course
